I’ve had some brilliant bargains in my time but of all the current ones this dress takes the cake. My favourite local op shop doesn’t normally stock plus size clothing or if it does it moves swiftly. I wandered in one day looking for nothing in particular and the print instantly grabbed me. The prettiest pastel shades of blue, pink, purple and taupe on a background of white without a single stain or tear.
The label looks as if it was made in the late 60’s or 70’s with the original patent belt too. It has sweet little pleats on the shoulder fastened with buttons which are purely cosmetic. It also has a higher neckline than I’m used to but I really don’t mind as it doesn’t feel matronly. I love the midi length and the fact that it shows off my shape without actually clinging to it.
When I don’t really have time to think about what I’m going to wear and I want to look nice without going to too much effort, I slip this dress on. The fabric doesn’t crinkle or show damp patches if I get an unexpected hot flush and it just makes me feel like a lady. I’ve added heels, sparkle and a vintage Glomesh purse to glam it up a few times but this is usually how I wear it, often with my simple white handbag instead of a clutch.
So why is it my best bargain? Well, I found it in an op shop pre-loved, in a beautiful floral print in some of my favourite colours, it fits like it was made for me and the best part… it was $2!
